AN ERA OF SUCCESS?

A last season at White Hart Lane; new signings and Champions League football – there’s a lot to be excited about for a Spurs fan with the 2016/17 season looming.

Pochettino was quoted this week explaining that he believes our club is at the beginning of a successful era; that his young, hungry and determined squad are on the cusp of glory. Champions League football provides these players with a fantastic opportunity, to measure their ability against the world’s very best.

With such a driven and motivational manager, anything is possible for this young Spurs team. For so much of last season, the players showed frighteningly good potential, a cohesive unit that were lethal, which could tear defences to shreds. (Do the home results against the two Manchester clubs ring a bell anyone?) However, at times we lacked consistency and options off the bench – the general consensus of the Spurs faithful being that we had a great first 11 but a lack of quality from the rest of the squad.

This has been identified by Pochettino and his generals with a foray of early transfer business from Tottenham, signing powerhouse defensive midfielder, Victor Wanyama as well as young Dutch striker Vincent Janssen. Victor Wanyama brings an abundance of Premier League experience and provides an extremely reliable option for Pochettino – a midfield three of Victor, Dembele and Dier is one not many Premier League teams will be relishing. Janssen looks a quality buy, topping the Eredivisie charts last season and showing key qualities of strength and the ability to score from both feet. This early intent from Spurs is music to fans’ ears – fans who are all too familiar with Levy’s parsimonious nature in previous windows.

This early business gives these players time to implement themselves in the team, get a full pre season behind them and acclimatise to Pochettino’s rigorous training standards – long may it continue!

The likes of young Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Eric Dier will only continue to improve under the watchful eye of Pochettino. The potential heights this team can achieve are paramount; who’s to say we cannot challenge the title this season with Chelsea, City and United all introducing new managers? Even after a torrid time at the Euros with Hodgson, I have no doubt they will come back and flourish under our brilliant manager. It is clear that the players love Pochettino and respond well to him – with this now being his third season in charge, ideas will be set in stone and the fruition of this will lead to more and more success on field.

It is the shared hope of all Tottenham fans that the last season on the special turf or White Hart Lane will be one to remember forever – while it’ll be extremely sad to see it go, it marks the start of a new chapter for the club – a 60,000 seater, world class stadium that will rival Europe’s best. Oh, what a time to be Spurs!
